I want to cite text on a personal website for a business. How do i cite others peoples research that is legal?

I am starting a business. I established a website for my business. There are various publications (obtained from .org, as well as copywriten material. Can i cut and paste text as long as i provide a link to the original source?

1. Always contact the source before posting. The last thing you need with a new business is a lawsuit. My advice: Take the content and re-write it in your own words/way. Always a good idea to add at least one unique sentence or two. Once you add the content to your website, check it at Copyspace.com.
